My New White Picket Fence

When I heard that the "fence" people were coming the next day, I walked out to my garden and snapped a few pics.  Who knows what will survive.

My carolina jasmine is just starting to bloom.

To help you understand what my garden consists of, we live in a town home very close to the Tennessee River.   Our back yard consists of a path and parking for two cars.  Yes, we have a garage but that is for "the lady", my golf cart that I use for fishing.  Our fence is approximately twenty-five years old.  So it was time.

This is a knock-out rose that we pruned last fall.  The "fence man" said we should "cut this waay back".

This is the third year for my peonies.  Up until this year, they have had a few blooms but this year they are loaded with buds.

I wonder if my "endless summer" hydrangea will survive the "fence man's" big feet.

My lenten roses always announce Spring is coming.

Armadi clematis is starting to bloom.  It's fragrance is wonderful.

I wasn't sure any of my garden would survive.  Everyone told me that there was "nothing I could do".  I knew I had to try.  I need you to visualize this:  red crepe paper streamers tied around every "plant that I have to save".  Sorry, I'm never good at taking "before" pics.

I know this post is getting long but I have to show you.....Just the pics, not much talking.

The fence men did great!  They did it all by hand instead of using their auger.  (big drill-looking machine)  I stayed out there with them.  I know they loved that.  The red crepe paper didn't hurt either.

This vine called "Jackson vine" came with us when we moved from Jackson street.  I hope it makes it.

                                                          Other side of drive...

Is that a shirt I see hanging on the lamp post?
Lord, have mercy!

Thanks for coming by.  I hope you enjoyed my garden path.

A Good Day

I had recently asked for a fishing lesson from Cody, our sweet grandson, This was a test, I think, on my part. We have always enjoyed each other's company and I kinda held my breath this year to see if the "invite" would be accepted.
This young man has become someone I have to look up to physically as he smiles that crooked grin with that curly hair falling down in his face. He usually calls me "Meems" instead of "MiMi."
I guess you can tell I'm in love!.
Next day the phone rings, "Meems, are you going fishing today? Will you pick me up before you go to the bait shop? I need to go too". Yes! After a lesson at the bait shop, we are ready.

Off we go, with our food, his fancy gear, my zebco, live worms, two tackle boxes, all loaded on
"The Lady". (my golf cart)
He shows me what kind of artificial bait might be good, the right hooks, and how to rig it all up.
I know nothing about bass fishing.
I just know I may need another lesson with Cody.

Bream are on the bed

Our beautiful Carol Anne!

You think he is having fun?

Great fish, Carol Anne

Carmen won the state record in her age group with this one!

Katie scores!

On this day, Krista & Matthew had rather watch.

Our Katie is into this!

Rob enjoying a quiet moment on the river.

Our wedding date forty+ years ago was determined by when the bream were on the bed"! My SH has always enjoyed fishing and has instilled that love in me, our children and grandchildren.

For those of you who don't understand this........bream are small game fish which usually come to shallow water to lay their eggs around the first full moon in May. Dogwoods are in full bloom.
You can smell it when bream are bedding. They usually "bed" at about the same place every year. They love redworms and crickets. They are real fighters and will make you think you are catching a huge fish. That's the reason they are a "fun" fish for children to catch.
 Bream
In 1997, we sold our fishing boat when we moved to a townhome. We didn't give much thought to fishing for a year or two. We walked on the trails near our home and from time to time would see people fishing. Hmmmmmm. We discovered we could ride our bikes and carry fishing gear too. Well, a new world was opened! We fished, travelling with our bikes, for a few years. Well, all that changed in 2008. My SH (sweet husband) broke his kneecap one week before I had Total Knee Replacement. You should have seen us! We had an interesting Summer.

Enter, THE LADY. A golf cart that allows us to carry all fishing tackle, snacks, radio, cell phone(for emergencies only) and get to all our "bream beds".                                                                !cid_492

Sweet boys!
This is our daughter, Nancy.  She is also Cody's mom.
She's not into fishing yet.

Yes, we do love fishing!
