Grandchildren's Favorite

I’ve never cared for sandwiches until I tasted my first Panini.

Pininis 003

If you don’t have one of these, you must go to Williams Sonoma right now and buy one!  Run!

Pininis 004

It is, hands down,  our grandchildren’s favorite meal at MiMi & Granddaddy’s.

Pininis 002

I’ve never made the same one twice.  It depends on what I have in the frig.  Good deli ham and turkey, at least two different kinds of cheese, is a good start.  Oh wait, the very most important ingredient is a good earthy bread.  You can’t go wrong at Publix.  I usually use the five grain Italian.

Pininis 005

Brush the outside of each slice of bread with olive oil.  Usually I mix a spread of mayo, mustard, and pesto? if I can do it without the kids seeing me!

I sautéed onions and bell peppers, and cucumbers.  Sometimes I do this and sometimes, I don’t.  I’m telling you, you can’t mess this up!
You can peek, it doesn’t hurt a thing.

Celebrate Growing Older

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me".  It is the most-requested   column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1.       Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2.       When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3.       Life is too short to waste time hating anyone...
4.       Your job won't take care of you when you are sick.  Your friends and parents will.   Stay in
          touch.
5.       Pay off your credit cards every month.
6.       You don't have to win every argument.  Agree to disagree.
7.       Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone..
8.       It's OK to get angry with God.  He can take it.
9.       Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.
10.     When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11.     Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12..     It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13.     Don't compare your life to others.  You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14.     If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15.     Everything can change in  the blink of an eye.  But don't worry; God never blinks.
16.     Take a deep breath.  It calms the mind.
17.     Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful..
18.     Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19.     It's never too late to have a happy childhood.  But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20.     When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21.     Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.
Don't save it for a special occasion,  Today is special.
22.     Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23.     Be eccentric now.  Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24.     The most important sex organ is the brain.
25.     No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26.     Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27.     Always choose life.
28.     Forgive everyone and everything.
29.     What other people think of you is none of your business.
30.     Time heals almost everything.  Give it time.
31.     However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32.     Don't take yourself so seriously.  No one else does.
33.     Believe in miracles..
34.     God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35.     Don't audit life.  Show up and make the most of it now..
36.     Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37.     Your children get only one childhood.
38.     All that truly matters in the end is that you loved..
39.     Get outside every day.  Miracles are waiting everywhere..
40 .     If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41.     Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42.     The best is yet to come.
43.     No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44.     Yield.
45.     Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

A New "Big Bird"

Remember all those sweet little bird photos I took during the snow?  Well, I made these from the same window today.  Wow!

Chicken Hawk 004

I had my camera lens poked thru the blinds.  I was so afraid he would fly before I could focus.  I think he was looking for my “sweet little birds”.

Chicken Hawk 002

I guess I was in shock!  We have bird feeders that my mother always enjoyed watching ( our sweet, little birds) from this same window.

Chicken Hawk 002

Stan(my sweet husband) says this is a “chicken hawk”.  His prey is chickens, small animals, and “sweet, little birds”.

A Weekend With Our Katie

You probably already know this.....I've told everyone who would listen.  Our Katie (who is our oldest granddaughter) spent the week-end with us recently.  To say we loved it is an understatement.  Her two sisters were invited too but that didn't work out.
Katie is working on her graduate degree at Stanford.  We are so proud!

Katie makes me feel young again.  She gave me lots of "fashion"  advice.  After her visit, I bought a belt....... "to wear with tops that were too long".

She also gave me permission to wear leggings!  71 yrs old and I ordered 2 pairs of leggings!  When you are that old, you can wear anything you want!  I wore them yesterday and I do really like them. LESSON:  Tights and leggings are not the same thing.

Now, I may be wrong...but I really think I heard her say that I needed some cowgirl boots?  I've always wanted some.  Surely I was wrong.  Katie's  grandmother in cowgirl boots?

Well,  just in case.....yep, I got some.  I love them!

NewImage  I  have so much more to tell you:

1.  How patient she is with all my dumb
     computer problems.

 2.  We had sunday brunch at the neatest place.

  3.  How she talks so fast I can hardly
                                       understand her.

Keep an eye out...front cover of Vogue.

Comparison Shopping

I'm almost afraid the "shopping police" will knock on my door if I do this post.  It is just too good!  I'm going to take my chances.
First, let me say that I love, love, shopping at  Anthropologie!  They have the neatest things.  Pricey things!  But I still love to shop there.  Recently, These came home with me.

I have coveted their cereal bowls for a long time.  All colors (fiesta type) @ 5.00 each.
Not bad, in fact, I almost bought  them. but got distracted and forgot all about them until....
I visited another favorite store today.  I can always find something I need at Big Lots.  I was just wheeling around and what to my wandering eyes should appear....
P1040355
There they were!  Now you just wait!

A SET OF FOUR FOR SIX DOLLARS!

They have several more sets.  (This color distraction is due to the photo only)

It doesn't take much to make me happy!  Just a few bowls....

My Wonderful Grandchildren!

My Wonderful Grandchildren

We have six!  A short time ago they were babies.  Now the oldest two are almost 23!  Our youngest is 13!
Being a Grandparent is a wonderful journey.  That very short time when they were babies was
delightful.  I'm quite sure their parents (our children) were just as precious but the thing is...I don't
remember the details like I do with grandchildren.

"Staying in touch" is hard as they get older.  For me, FaceBook is a good thing.  I wish I were better
at texting.  It takes me a long time, but I do try it.  That is the sure-fire way to hear from them.  I have
tried "chat" a few times but I always feel as if I am interrupting.  Just sayin'.....

Heart-warmers:  Any type of note (mine are always computer generated) from grandchildren.  I "save"
them so I can read them more than one time.  Did I just say that?  Makes me sound so "needy".

The Little Red Hen

It was love at first sight.

She was at an estate sale waiting for me.  This green
base was screaming my name.  She is a new "mama"
           too.  See her peeps!

A "peep" ladle, indeed!

Isn't she a beauty!

Big lots soup bowls, thrift store fiesta ware, One Kings Lane
flatware, Fostoria stemware, Pier One placemats, napkins,
   and napkin rings.

Two iron "birdie" trays are a gift from my sister.  She knows what
I like.  Part of my collection of pitchers...

Let's not forget the star of the show,
The Little Red Hen
(except she's not red!)
